Marital happiness is something that all couples crave. It is beautiful when couples feel a sense of intimacy and can unite even in difficult times. Marriage can be fun, fulfilling and enjoyable when persons know what areas of a relationship lead to marital happiness.
Several couples, on the island of St. Kitts, had the privilege of receiving marriage enhancing information over a 3 day period from September 3 - 5, 2018. The professionally conducted sessions utilized the Prepare/Enrich system which allows couples to utilize a scientifically researched assessment tool to give a snapshot of their relationship at a particular point in time.
During the sessions, we had the presence of Dr Carson Greene, President of the South Leeward Mission, on
PREPARE/ENRICH is a customised couple assessment completed online that identifies a couple's strength and growth areas. It is one of the most widely used programs for premarital counselling and premarital education and is also used for marriage counselling, marriage enrichment, and dating couples considering engagement. Based on a couple's assessment results, a trained facilitator provides 3 or more feedback sessions in which the facilitator helps the couple discuss and understand their results as they are taught proven relationship skills.
In this case, the trained facilitator was Dr Mark L. Braithwaite, Family Ministries Director of the South Leeward Mission. Dr Braithwaite asked each couple to complete an online assessment, which was totally confidential, with results being sent back to the participants.
The main component of the program was the online survey. PREPARE/ENRICH is not just any survey. The items responded to are based on research and are intended to help couples identify the unique strengths and potential growth areas of their married relationship. Built on a solid research foundation, PREPARE/ENRICH has been improved and refined over the years to become one of the best, most effective, easy-to-use relationship assessment tools available.
The areas assessed included 12 Relationship Scales - communication, conflict resolution, roles, sexuality, finances, spiritual beliefs, and more. Also included as a part of the experience were: the 5 SCOPE Personality Scales, 4 Couple and Family Scales - based on Circumplex Model, 4 Relationship Dynamic Scales and 30 Customised Scales.
During the sessions, the facilitator provided each couple with two personalized reports which provided the couple with insight into their own relationships. The sessions helped couples to:
* Identify strength and growth areas
* Explore personality traits
* Strengthen communication skills
* Resolve conflicts and reduce stress
* Compare family backgrounds
The couples were amazed as they identified their strength and growth areas and recognized the importance of knowing this information. Couples spent time each evening engaged in meaningful and intentional conversation as they were encouraged to talk about their day and also share compliments with each other. You could see persons blushing as their spouses said lovely things about them, to them.
At the end the seminar each couple received a certificate of completion and were now empowered to keep enjoying their relationships. Finally, a prayer of recommitment was offered and couples sealed their recommitment with a kiss. Many of the couples indicated that the information was extremely useful and that as many couples as possible needed to be exposed to the material.
