Purpose: To position the Adventist Church and its services to a standing of credibility, trust, and relevance in the public realm.

Our Work

The Department of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty (PARL) is part of the global endeavour of the Adventist church to create favourable conditions to share the good news of freedom and to invite all to a loving fellowship with God and fellow human beings. Additionally, PARL proactively and diligently works to dispel prejudices against the SDA church—its identity, message, and mission—by mingling with people and sharing distinct Adventist insights through peaceful persuasion.

PARL’s mandate is to promote and develop a culture of human rights grounded on human dignity and on the belief in the creation of all humans in God's image, free to fellowship with God and fellow human beings.

The Caribbean Religious Liberty Association (CARLA) plays a significant role in the ministry of this department in the regions of the Caribbean Union. The departments work across the Union also seeks to strengthen bridge-building with other religions by establishing relationships with groups such as Muslims, Hindus, and Mormons.  The department is not merely an avenue for social activism but education, intervention and development and Christian outreach.

The Department’s work also includes

  • Encouraging and supporting sub-entities to develop and maintain relationships with national religious liberty influencers in their countries.
  • Promotion of freedom of religion for all people.
  • Facilitate and support congresses, symposiums and advisories across the various countries in the Union.
